Indian School of Tea – Everything You Want to Learn About Tea

About Indian School of Tea

Founded by Susmita Das Gupta, a Tea educator and influencer with an MBA in Marketing & Finance from the Great Lakes Institute of Management, the Indian School of Tea is the India’s first global tea school. This pioneering institution aims to bridge the gap in tea education and appreciation in India.

Turning Point

Susmita’s journey into the tea industry began while working with a British tea brand entering the Indian market. She quickly identified a significant lack of understanding and skill set regarding specialty / fine tea in India, which inspired her to create a platform dedicated to comprehensive tea learning and knowledge sharing.

Struggles and Obstacles

The initial stages of launching the Indian School of Tea were challenging, primarily due to financial constraints and general skepticism about the necessity of formal tea education. Despite these hurdles, Susmita persevered, bootstrapping the venture to ensure its success.

Achievements

The Indian School of Tea officially launched on April 23rd and has already successfully concluded three online and one hybrid programs. Additionally, the school has partnered with the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), marking a significant milestone in its early journey.

Motivation and Goals

Susmita is driven by two primary goals: to enhance the global recognition of Indian tea and to fill the educational void about Tea in India and about Indian Tea globally. Through the Indian School of Tea, she aims to create new career opportunities for young Indians as well as hospitality professionals and create a band of tea experts who can perform successfuly globally.

Additional Information

Susmita Das Gupta is also a tea artist with over six years of experience conducting tea workshops. She believes that the Indian School of Tea will cultivate a new skill set among young Indians and significantly contribute to the global appreciation of Indian tea. Currently, Indian School of Tea is offering 3 weekend Full Day Programs on Introduction to Tea Appreciation, Tea for Entrepreneurs, and Tea for Hospitality. These are certified programs and the certificates are signed by both Indian School of Tea & IIHM.
