Inside the Jaguar Type 01 and Its Radical Electric Reboot

The Jaguar Type 01 arrives with three electric motors, roughly 1,016 horsepower, and an anticipated EPA range of up to 400 miles. Those figures grab attention, but the bigger story is its character: a dramatic four-door grand tourer built to relaunch Jaguar at the expensive end of the EV market. The range remains a manufacturer projection, pending certification.

It still looks startling. A long hood, low roof, and substantial body give it a presence that a conventional electric sedan rarely attempts.

Jaguar Type 01 Design Refuses to Blend In

The proportions make the statement. This new electric Jaguar stretches 206.1 inches long, yet stands just 55.2 inches tall. Its passenger compartment sits well back, emphasizing the hood and creating an unusually low silhouette.

There’s no conventional rear window. A camera-based rear-view display handles that job while the bodywork continues toward the tail. The shape achieves a reported drag coefficient of 0.23.

Here’s the thing. Dramatic styling only works as a grand tour if it supports the journey. Aerodynamic efficiency matters because every reduction in resistance helps preserve energy at highway speeds.

Despite the coupe-like appearance, the production model has four doors and four seats. Calling it an electric Jaguar supercar misses its intended role.

Three Motors and Serious Passing Power

A tri-motor layout gives the Jaguar Type 01 its headline output: one motor drives the front wheels, while two power the rear axle. Jaguar publishes up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm, equivalent to approximately 1,016 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet. Its claimed 0–62 mph time starts at 3.2 seconds, with 62–112 mph taking 4.0 seconds.

That second figure suits the GT mission. It suggests substantial acceleration already underway, rather than a performance story built entirely around launches. These are manufacturer claims, not results from an independent production-car road test. The hardware promises plenty; steering feel, braking consistency, and ride quality still need evaluation together.

The Range Story Needs the Right Context

The 118-kWh battery and 850-volt architecture underpin the anticipated 400-mile EPA figure. Jaguar also projects up to 450 miles under the WLTP testing cycle. Those numbers come from different testing methods and shouldn’t be treated as interchangeable. For anyone comparing Jaguar EV range with rivals, the eventual certified figures will provide a firmer reference.

Charging looks promising. Jaguar advertises 10–80 percent in as little as 22 minutes using 350-kW DC charging. It also claims up to 200 miles of added range in 13 minutes. Actual charging depends on battery temperature, starting charge level, and available station power. A charger’s advertised output alone doesn’t guarantee the shortest stop.

A Cabin With Its Own Priorities

Inside, the Jaguar flagship EV carries the exterior’s clean, architectural approach into a cabin divided by a central spine. Brass-inspired elements add warmth, while a 24-inch OLED driver display anchors the interface. The visual restraint is appealing. For daily use, the important question is how easily the driver can adjust common functions while keeping attention on the road.

The low roof also deserves scrutiny. Buyers should try both seating rows and check luggage space before assuming a large exterior guarantees generous passenger room. Design-led luxury often involves trade-offs.

Price and the Road Ahead

Jaguar’s UK page lists the standard 1,030-PS version from £129,950 and Design Vision from £144,950. The source report estimates a US starting price around $130,000 and points to arrival in summer 2027. That US figure is an estimate, not confirmed pricing.

The Jaguar Type 01 has enough substance to make its appearance more than a talking point. Power, projected range, and charging capability support a credible luxury GT proposition. The next judgment belongs on the road: whether its comfort, control, and usability match the ambition. Until then, this is a compelling first look at a Jaguar determined to be noticed.
